Daily Walk: Surrender + Mission + Stewardship

Luke 14-17, John 11 – Day 292 of the One Year Chronological Bible Plan

>> Jesus Calls us to complete surrender (Luke 14:25-35). Counting the cost and placing everything under his lordship is the disciples rhythm.

>> Jesus pursues the lost (Luke 15). Am I approachable to those who are lost (v. 1)? Am I spending time with those who are lost (v. 2)? Am I going after those that are lost (v. 4)? Am I filled with compassion for the lost (v. 20)? Am I celebrating the lost when they are found?

>> We must faithfully steward earthly resources with wisdom and generosity. Luke 16.

>> Forgive repeatedly and serve faithfully without seeking recognition. Luke 17:1-10. Jesus commend confrontation of sin but quick and regular forgiveness.

>> Jesus is present in our pain. John 11. Jesus wept reminds us that Jesus feels our grief and cares. And his resurrection of Lazarus reminds us that his words can powerfully bring dead things to life.

Lord, deepen my surrender. Give me your heart for the lost. Protect me from elder brother religious pride and selfish ambition. Help me lead out of devotion, pursue those far from you, and steward everything your’ve entrusted to us.

Daily Walk: Heart Transformation

John 6:22-71; Mark 7:1-23; Matthew 15:1-20

>> Seek Jesus for who he is, not what he can provide on this earth. As Evan McGinty says, “Jesus is not the Bread Man, He’s the Bread, man.” Ha!

>> Tradition and religion cannot substitute true relationship with God. Jesus teaches that religion and tradition CAN coexist with hearts that are far from God. Relgious practice alone doesn’t cleanse the sinful heart. We need communion with Jesus and heart transformation that only he gives.

>> We don’t just need new and better religious habits. Habits and practices are graces that help us grow, but we ultimately need Jesus’ gift righteousness that transforms the heart.

Lord, give me a new heart that is satisfied only by you.

Daily Walk: Jesus’ Compassion, Our Mission

Matthew 9:27-38, Mark 6:1-13, Matthew 13:53-58, Matthew 10, Luke 9:1-6

>> Jesus sees people with compassion, calls us to pray, and sends us to proclaim the kingdom.

>> See as Jesus sees – Do I see people as Jesus sees them? Like sheep without a shephered? or as interruptions? lost causes? or potential problems?

>> Pray for laborers and be willing to become the answer to our own prayers and the prayers of others. Jesus tells them to pray for laborers and then sends them out as laborers. And they went.

>> Proclaim the Kingdom – the mission is not do good things, but to proclaim good news.

>> See + Pray + Go + Proclaim + Serve. See the crowds, pray for laborers, go where Jesus sends, proclaim the good news of the kingdom, serve with wisdom and generosity.

What now?

  1. See one person today through the eyes of Jesus
  2. Pray specifically for more laborers.
  3. Share the good news of the kingdom intentinonally with at least one person.
